In Chapter 0, we have talked about lines that are tangent to circles and in the textbook there were references to lines that are tangent to other types of curves. If we have a function x) and we are looking at the point (a, f(a)) then the line that is tangent to the function at that point will touch the curve at the point and goes in the direction that the curve is headed at that point. The tangent line may or may not intersect the curve again. Here are a couple of examples (the green and blue lines are the tangent lines). (a. flan (a. f(a)) Draw by hand or use DESMOS to draw a function (curved - not linear) that has a domain of [1, 5]. a) On your function draw the tangent line at a: = 2, :1: = 4, and a: = 4. If on your version you ended up with two x-vals that are the same, please just pick another x-value in your interval. b) Put the three slopes in numerical order. Use ml for the slope at a: = 2, mg for the slope at :1: = 4, etc. c) Estimate the slope at :1: = 2. Show how you estimated in your work. Upload an image of your work for parts a, b and c in the box below
