In Chapter 10, Persuasive Messages, you're learning about tone, style, and the key parts of persuasive messages. This week's discussion is all about the sample messages in Chapter 10, because there is a great deal to be learned from examples in writing.
MondayWednesday: Please discuss the messages in Figures 10.2 and 10.3.
WednesdayFriday: Please discuss the messages in Figures 10.4 and 10.5.
FridaySunday: Please discuss the messages in Figures 10.12 and 10.13.
(There is overlap on the days so that if one set of messages has been exhausted, you and your classmates can move on to the next set.)
As you examine each set of messages, you'll see that there is a less effective version and a more effective version of a persuasive email. When you look at each message, please review all of the items we've discussed so far this session.
What is the subject line? Is it specific and clear?
How is the document design (white space, paragraphs long or short, lists, images/graphics, and so on)? Are the elements effectively used? Why or why not?
And for the most important part: the messaging. How is the message developed? Does the author use an indirect or a direct approach? Why?
