In Chapter 5 (System Acquisition), we are examining all the different decisions that need to be considered when purchasing a new healthcare information system. Some decisions must be made from a financial standpoint (can we afford this system?), while others must be made from a functionality standpoint (we really need a system that offers nurses real-time, aggregate data about their patients). The amount of research an organization must conduct before coming to a decision is important, because information systems usually aren't cheap, and contracts are negotiated for 5 years. There's not a lot worse than being stuck with a system that doesn't meet organizational or patient care needs. This is where the importance of a well written Request for Proposal (RFP) comes in. In an RFP, you are representing a picture of your current organizational issues and creating a list of what you need the new system to help you do. In this discussion question assignment, I have broken you into 8 randomly selected groups. Each group will be responsible for coming up with 5 (or more) questions in a specific category. Scenario/Background for Discussion Question Bones-R-Us, an outpatient, not-for-profit, multi-specialty orthopedic clinic needs to purchase a new EHR to support their growing business. Their old EHR does not meet the requirements of several new laws and documentation requirements. The Bones-R-Us Clinic sees patients Monday-Friday from 6am to 7pm, Monday through Friday and performs outpatient surgeries (arthroscopic/exploratory surgery, joint wrist joint repair, carpel tunnel syndrome surgery, etc.), diagnostic services (film/imaging), occupational and physical therapy services, new and return patient consultations, and other rehabilitation services. The clinic employs 5 surgeons, 2 anesthesiologists, 5 CRNAs, 10 nurses and an administrative staff of 8 people (billing, check-in, coding, schedulers, etc.). The clinic performs about 2500 surgeries and procedures each year. Please note that Bones-R-Us is NOT replacing its billing system - only the EHR. Your Deliverable Each group has a category in the of requirements that the new EHR must meet. Each group member should list at least one requirement that the new system must meet, and why this requirement is important to consider. Group members are welcome to comment on other group members' posts and may add additional requirements after every group member has shared. Canvas should notify you about which group you are in and what category your group is speaking to. If you or your group is confused about any of the requirements for this assignment, please post questions in the
