In examining the evolution of unions in this country, it was mentioned in the lecture notes that the term diversity most appropriately characterizes labor organizations today. Today's organized labor is made up of a wide variety of people. For example, there are more part-time employees, greater numbers of women, minorities, and "older" workers, more single-parent employees, and more "white-collar" employees in today's workforce than in years past. 1. What approaches should unions be taking to meet the evolving needs of today's more diverse workforce? 2. What approaches should management be taking to meet these same needs?
