1. In her guest lecture on the legal system, Shalini Konanur argues that criminal law plays a limited role in stopping gender-based violence. She suggests that the data indicates very little effectiveness of criminal law in this regard. If gender-based violence continues to increase, it implies that deterrenceone of the primary goals of criminal law, which is to punish offenders to deter others from committing the same crimeis not working in these instances.
