In many families, parents are not involved in their children's education.This can be especially harmful when children struggle, since parents are often unaware of this difficulties.

Researchers recently tested an intervention in a mid-size city in Colombia to see whether informing parents about their children's educational struggles would increase engagement and learning.They split participating families randomly into a treatment and control group, and then visited the homes of the treatment families to inform them of their children's progress.They then measured test score outcomes over four subsequent semesters, using the following regression model:
