In most laboratories, work is divided into tasks that require different sets of skills (ie phlebotomists drawing blood, MLTS running moderate complexity testing, and CLSs doing high complexity tests). Work groups allow sharing of responsibilities among members of the lab team in a way that helps everyone understand their responsibilities and abide by decisions made. Stages of forming work groups: 1. Forming stage: Members getting to know each other, group hierarchy is established, mutual accommodation of tasks and priorities takes place 2. Storming stage: Imbalances and conflicts become apparent and need to be resolved 3. Norming stage: Members have come to an agreement on how things are done 4.
