In my experience, I have observed task-oriented and relationship-oriented leadership styles. I have observed this as a leader and as an employee. I believe that when you are a leader who relies on task-oriented leadership, employees reach a point where they do not help you finish. They only do what they must do and do not put in extra effort to finish the day's task; they only dedicate themselves to doing what their job description says. While task-oriented leadership provides everything necessary for the work to be done efficiently and on time, it does not create that relationship that is needed for employees to trust the leader, and the employees do the work because they are paid to do it. A relationship-oriented style is where the employees' opinion is considered more and tries to create a more friendly environment for employees. Creating that relationship between leader and employee is good, but you must be careful because some employees can confuse a good working relationship with friendship.
