In my position, I deal with a lot of cross functional teams and ensuring deadlines are met for needed actions. I would send out a list of action items each Monday with deadline dates and then follow up on any actions that were not complete later in the week. I was really struggling to get actions competed for a specific team. I went to my director and ask if he would be willing to send follow ups on my second email to get people to action faster. Without saying these exact words, he told me to take a more relationship oriented approach. He asked if I ever got to know the people who I tagged in these actions emails and if I knew what their day to day looked like. When I said no, he recommended setting up a reoccurring meeting so that I could point out the action items but also build a relationship with them so they might be quick to react when urgent projects come along.
