In November 2020, Phiona bought a car from Mathias for Ugsh.50,000,000/= to be paid in two instalments of Ugsh.25,000,000/=. Phiona did not pay the second instalment when it was due. She never disputed that she owed Mathias this money.

Mathias felt sorry for Phiona, who lost her job not long after buying the car. He told her that if she paid him the half of what she owed him Ugsh.12,500,000/= by the following Wednesday, he would let her off with the balance.

Phiona paid him the Ugsh.12,500,000/= on the following Tuesday. She also gave him a bottle of wine "in consideration of his kindness".

On the Friday Phiona was notified that she had been successful in one of her job applications and would be starting work at a much better salary than her old job on the 1st of the Month.

Mathias has heard about Phiona's new job and realizes that she is likely to be earning more than he is. He now wishes to claim the rest of the money which she had originally agreed to pay for the car.

Meanwhile, Echo, a 16 year was left an orphan by a car crash which hilled his parents. He took an evening job as a shop attendant and Shoprite supermarket in Kampala. Shoprite owed Echo 16 weeks wages amounting to Ughs.1,600,000/= but failed to pay him.

In the meantime, Echo had arranged with professor Yoboka to have piano classes for six months at 30,000/= per lesson. Echo was determined to complete his piano lessons as he envisaged becoming a professional piano player when he completed his education. After three lessons, Echo decided that he did not want any lessons and wrote to professor Yoboka to this effect. Professor wants to sue Echo for the lessons he has already given and damages for breach for contract.

Lastly, Steve went to Woolworth to buy a designer jean he had seen on the cloth line costing 50,000/=. Having longed to own a designer jean, Steve borrowed money from his friend Eric to purchase the jean. Upon reaching the counter, Steve was informed that the jean costs 500,000/= and not what is indicated on the tag. Steve feels aggrieved and would like to sue the shop.
