In order to ensure that all personnel actions are conducted in a fair and legal manner, law enforcement leaders must work closely with a human resources specialist. Unlike private industry and most other types of government positions, there are additional guidelines that may positively or negatively impact all types of personnel actions. These guidelines may come from a collective bargaining agreement, the state's Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) board, or civil service rulings, among others.
