In our class, we were joined by Alice May from City Year. City Year is a ~$173M (FY19) nonprofit organization that deploys stipended Corps members on year-long placements in schools all over the United States to help students develop the social, emotional, and academic skills necessary to succeed in school and life. The Corps members are supported by year-round professional staff with educational expertise who ensure program quality and fidelity across locations.

To support this work, in FY19 City Year secured (a) ~$50M from the US Federal Government through AmeriCorps grants using a team specializing in government relations; (b) ~$40M in program payments/contracts from school districts; and (c) the remainder in charitable contributions secured by professional fundraisers from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
