In Part 1 of this lab, you will plot observed data for the motion of the planet Mercury. In Part 2, you will measure the properties of the orbit that you plotted to obtain its semi-minor and semi-major axes and its eccentricity.

The two parts of the lab show how Kepler's first law applies; the planets move in elliptical orbits.

In Part 3 of the lab, you will analyze how much area the radius vector sweeps out at different parts of the orbit in equal intervals of time.
