In Python write a function that will take in a string variable, and separate it into a list of characters. It must accept the following punctuation characters:

equal sign = ,

semicolon ;

{ left curly bracket,

} right curly bracket ,

| and vertical bar.

any other characters should be marked as syntax error and their position in the list returned.
