In reference to the ethical theory of virtue ethics, discuss what character traits would make someone a "good" person or a "bad" person, as well as what character traits would make someone a "good" or "bad" health care provider. (Remember that character traits are not actions, although according to the theory of virtue ethics, you need to do certain actions over and over to acquire certain traits; for example, you need to do generous actions again and again to actually be a generous person.)
Also, give an example of when various virtues could come into conflict with one another (such as not being able to be honest and kind at the same time), or when various roles conflict (such as not being able to be a good parent and a good employee at the same time), and write how you think the ethical theory of virtue ethics could help you figure out what to do in such conflicts.
Contract theories such as John Rawls' claim that the morally right thing to do is to follow the rules that free and rational persons would agree to follow in order to get others to agree to follow those rules as well. These theories usually create and acknowledge rights (things that we are entitled to, not gifts or things we earn). In this discussion, you can talk about whether you think health care is a right, which might include asking/answering :
1) If health care is a right, what services and resources does that mean? Would it include things like treatment for mental illness and drug addiction? Would it include all surgical procedures or treatments no matter how costly? Would it include contraception?
2) If it's a right for one person, does it mean it is a right for persons all over the world?
3) Would it include a right for futile care (care that offers no benefit)?
4) Could persons possibly do things that would limit or take away their right to health care?
5) Who would be obligated to provide it?
