"The case study "Decisions in software development projects management" is about software development and the emotional consequences of making hard decisions. First, in this case study, the authors are analyzing and find the most important and hard decisions in software development projects. The second focus is on the influence of emotions on decision-making. On the other hand, a quality management plan is a document that helps project managers execute quality management and quality assurance actions which are fulfilling project requirements and meeting customer needs (Malsam, W. 2022, November 9). It will be done through activities that will apply throughout the project to meet goals and deliverables. These activities will be described in the quality management plan document. It is important to identify customer and professional standards, and balance needs and expectations. In addition, it is important that everyone is following and referring to the quality management plan for guidance because that will lead to higher efficiency and also sets a mutual goal that is understood by everyone.
The authors of the case study decided that hard decisions are characterized by four aspects that are the complexity of the problem, uncertainty, taking too many responsibilities, and too many perspectives. Based on these guidelines the hardest decisions in software development projects are project prioritization, requirement prioritization, and development strategy election and some other ones. The plan quality process is a good way to deal with negative emotions that were present in all hard decision-making. It is a good way because just like quality management deals with the quality of overall processes it can mitigate negative emotions while making hard decisions by creating guidelines and directions that everyone can refer to. Creating guidelines and directions on how to deal with negative emotions when making hard decisions can significantly mitigate negative emotions and improve success and creating a state of a safe environment to make better decisions. One reflection that the authors noticed was that in work environments, the higher importance of technical competencies over interpersonal skills in training was noticed (Colomo Palacios, R. 2013). In addition, the situational stress that is caused by the technology sector should have the training to satisfy the demands of these professionals. Training is a critical part of a quality management system so applying it to this case study would improve results and help professionals deal with stress.
The steps after defining the objectives and standards, balancing needs, and creating an effective plan are to develop performance thresholds to measure the success of the objectives. Having these measurements in place will help to determine the overall performance of the quality management plan. The last step is to ensure that customers, who in this case are the professionals and the employees, have implemented all the objectives and goals."
