In responding to your peers, comment on the impact that organizational structure has on a company like Zappos. What dynamics are involved? Think about places where you have worked and how the culture impacted you.
Must give an answer for each peer.
PEER 1:
After watching both videos, I do not think having a unique culture such as the one Zappos as would hur the company in the long run. Zappos has built a foundation based upon it's customer service and how you treat others. Multiple people said in the video that because of the values that Zappos has, it has spilled out into their every day lives. This not only makes the company better, but also the community around it. All of the employees working there seemed to thoroughly enjoy their jobs and when you have happy employees, you have happy customers.
I think more companies should model this in the future. I feel like some companies get so into the routine of things and worried about revenue that they lose sight of who is helping them to obtain these things. I don't think a lot of companies truly care about their employees' wellbeing the way Zappos does. Adapting to this new, nontraditional workplace will help with retention and recruitment. Especially after COVID, which had most people working from the comfort of their own homes, having this open and outgoing workplace makes it more enjoyable for all.
I truly believe my own current workplace could benefit from this. Being not only a small business, but a business within the cannabis industry, having unqiue ways of working can be beneficial when trying to brainstorm new ways of marketing and customer service. We have customers coming from all over with conditions and issues that are not necessarily the easiest to deal with so we should want to have the best customer service at the forefront.
PEER 2:
After watching the videos provided, I actually think Zappos may want to review how it presents its company culture.
The culture that Zappos is trying to put into practice is admirable, but the video in my opinion truly does come off as one of those corporate training videos they make you sit through on the first day of your job. Perhaps it is an unfair criticism as i am not privy as to the actual going-ons of a day in the life of a Zappos employee, but these videos that only give us anecdotal glimpses into what the company supposedly values and employees who were either impressed by it or exhibited those values, just seems like a very antiquated way of company culture presentation.
I'm not sure of any better way personally that a company can exhibit its culture however, and would love to hear suggestions from fellow classmates!
