In the 1980s Estes and Rice (Health of Elderly Policy Issues and CHallenges) predicted a shortage in physicians and nurses primarily in geriatric care as an increased need for nursing homes. They suggested more alternative institutionalization such as home health, rehab etc. Has the past projections become accurate or inaccurate representations of the current health care and health policy environment? what health policy or policies reflects this?
