In the article "Why the Beach is A Bummer" I found that the author Roxane Gay is trying to express to readers how she feels about going to a beach by using her very own personal life experiences. Beaches are one of the many wonders of nature's beauty. A widen strip of land separating a body of water from inland areas for people to come to for whatever reason chosen. They are usually made of sand, tiny shells, rocks, small piers, and minerals that have been worn down by constant pounding waves and high force wind. During the summer time, most everyone loves going there because it is a relaxing place where you can ignore your responsibilities/anxieties and enjoy the calming effects of the sun, sand, and water with outdoor activities. I cannot imagine people who hate beaches, but yes, inevitably there are a group of people who hated it. The article 'Why the Beach is a Bummer" by Roxane Gay, it describes her displeasure with going to the beach for different reasons, including her negativity and fear of judgment being passed for her look in a bathing suit, making her feel as though she doesn't fit in properly. She can't imagine why Americans are so attracted to the beaches. She reflects on her own experiences at beaches while visiting in Haiti as a child to develop a sense of appreciation for the land and culture, while also enjoying the beach itself since all the beaches on the island of Haiti are all clear blue water with the perfect temperature. She also reflects on how in Haiti, there was no sense to look a certain way to be considered attractive or to have a 'beach body, along with the fact that the beach activities, such as reading while sunbathing, was not excluded by other purposes; whereas beaches in the United States differ totally as beachgoers are expected to be partying and loud. Most of the young women with their handsome young men, consume a specific type of alcohol or cocktail while sunbathing, and have an array of activities that are deemed to be beach clear. It's hot and sunny, which can be uncomfortable for some people. There are too large crowds of people, which can make it difficult to find a quiet spot to relax. The sand can be dirty and full of debris, which can be unpleasant. These are just a few of the reasons why the beach might not be everyone's favorite place. Roxane Gay provides several examples of why the beach is a bummer in her article. She cites the hot and sunny weather as one of the main reasons, as well as the crowds of people and the dirty sand. Indeed, that article proves that everyone has their own preferences. As I conclude, I think the article tells that she had more than one reason why she disliked going to the beach. It also gives us an idea that would conclude with, it is not just what is on the beaches but the temperature and people are as well the problem for her to go to the beach to relax or read while sunbathing.
