In the Dred Scott case (Casebook at 39), part of our study on slavery, the US Supreme Court considered Dred Scott's claim that his residence in a 'free' state (one that did not permit slavery) had dissolved his slave status. Read the decision of Chief Justice Taney and, from the text of his remarks, give TWO examples of comments, concepts or legal rules used that align/tend to support Cotterrell's statement and briefly EXPLAIN how they do so.
