The figure is divided into three parts. In part (a), a block of weight w is suspended from a rope, which passes through a pulley and is fixed to a wall. In part (b), two blocks of weight w each are suspended from the ends of a rope, which passes over a fixed pulley. The right block is lower than the left block. In part (c), two pulleys are fixed on a horizontal axis. A rope passes over both pulleys and supports a block of weight w at each its end. The right block is lower than the left block.
