In the following scenario, you are employed in a community agency providing support services to aged and disabled people.
You are walking out of the office building, when you notice a client of one of your colleagues standing by the door, visibly upset. You ask the client if everything is alright. Initially she says she is fine and just needs a moment but continues to cry. Seeing that something is troubling the client, you suggest that maybe she could speak to her support worker to talk through whatever is troubling her. At this suggestion, the client becomes quite agitated. She discloses to you that the support worker had hurt her, by grabbing her arms. You can see some red marks on the tops of her arms. The client says that up until this point she has had a good relationship with her support worker, but now feels uncomfortable and is not sure how to proceed. You ask the client if she would like to make a formal complaint, but she declines. She thanks you for listening and leaves the building. The support worker of this client is a close friend of yours as well as a colleague.
