In the Godard reading he posits and discusses three theses (capitalism, industrialism, and industrial capitalism) on industrial relations, the economy and society, which incorporate, to some extent, the five perspectives of industrial or labour relations also examined in the Doorey text. These theses from three of the nineteenth century's greatest theorists (Marx, Weber, Durkheim) are intellectual responses to industrialization, urbanization, and the emergence of "modern society", and are sociological theories, which seek to explain, on a very broad scale, how modern Western economies and societies operate. Assess and explain why, in your opinion, which of the theses Godard discusses best explains the current economic and social conditions that are prevailing in Canada? Using recent developments from the labour market from the recent past (i.e. last ten years) explain why the thesis/theorist you chose is the best route to understanding how the Canadian economy and society actually operates?
