In the green colored pages prior to each chapter of the CPT manual are the Guidelines sections. These are the rules of the road when doing procedural coding. In the HCPCS II manual they are not as clear. For this week's initial discussion post please discuss the following items in the forum.

Explain one of the many guidelines so that a non-coder would understand.

In the reply , ask questions to clarify what they are posting. If a guideline is unclear have the class assist to clarify for you.

Also explain why do we need modifiers when coding for procedures and what are some examples of a CPT modifier versus a HCPCS II modifier?
