In the grocery business, retailers carry approximately thousand food items in the stores and buy them from hundreds of manufacturers. The food needs to remain fresh so there have to be frequent shipments from manufacturers to stores. These shipments often do not fill a truck and are costly. To efficiently reduce shipment costs, Ryder has started to offer a MACC (Mixing and Consolidation Center) Solution. A MACC receives food shipments from manufacturers and stores them for a day or less in climate controlled rooms.
