In the modern world, entering the work industry is a rite of passage for most people. It is
important to understand that, just like everything else in our lives, this part of life will evolve
constantly. While these changes continue, the management to help control and support these
changes seem to always be playing catch up. Furthermore, if this challenge was not hard enough,
the addition of creating new rules to satisfy and support every working individual pose additional
challenges. As the work industry continues to grow, it needs to grow in communication,
flexibility and staff appreciation.
Communication
Communication has always been one of core values in the work industry, no matter what
the occupation may be. Even though it is one of the most known and important values a business
should have, it remains misunderstood by some. The first thing a business needs to understand is
that there are multiple forms of communication; understanding one form of communication is
not going to do much in the long term (Bartlett,2022). All forms of communication are
important to know but with recent years some may be more prioritized; one-on-one meetings,
face to face communication, strengthen personal connections and positive feedback. All of those
relate to getting to know each other and building and trust, which has been one of weak points
since the recent COVID-19 pandemic (Jostle,2022). When everyone was in quarantine, a lot of
people lost their social skills and people new to the working industry never got to develop them
to begin with. To combat the lack of social skills, businesses need to start emphasizing the
importance of getting to know your employees and coworkers alike. A way to implement this
new age of communication is to host events to create these windows of opportunity to strengthen
the bonds between the employees (Bartlett,2022). As soon as people get more comfortable in
their environment there will be positive feedback in the results in their work.
Flexibility
The implementation of flexibility is one that can easily scare most businesses because of
the possible harm it could do to productivity and result of the company; although, in recent times
flexibility has been considered more frequently in job searching (Luciano,2022). While it is true
that there is a chance that granting this flexibility can cause harm, there are methods to try and
best meet the needs of both sides. The manager should always have updates on upcoming
deadlines or events, so there should be company meetings to create a company calendar. This
calendar should include nonnegotiable workdays, company events and deadlines (Luciano,
2022). Another aspect that needs revisioning is team management. Many companies tend to have
these big teams that could easily be broken into smaller groups to be more efficient with their
time. With more teams, this could allow for the project to be focused on in smaller sections into
the final product or even allow for multiple projects to be worked on at once (Luciano,2022).
One last method is to highlight the priorities in each task, if there are priorities set it will become
easier for someone to write out a plan for how they want to work on their assignment. In the end,
the implementation of flexibility will inevitably be in the hands of the management team being
that they hold the power of granting and controlling the amount of flexibility in a company
(Luciano,2022).
Staff Appreciation
Staff appreciation is one of the most valued parts of the working industry, especially by
the staff of any business. Interviews have shown that the simple act of recognition can be just as
or even more valued than the money, meaning that it simply is not being shown enough
(Hastwell,2023). When trying to establish a safe and thriving work community, it is important to
build a habit of recognition in the work culture (Hastwell,2023). Building this culture of
recognition is easy no matter what business you enter, starting from a real personal relationship
with the staff into formally recognizing te staff in big events for the business. Starting with the
personal showing of appreciation, a simple thank-you note, or small gift is a great way to show
an employee your appreciation of their work ethic (Peesker,2022). Continuing with this habit of
showing appreciation will only show positive results in staff work ethic, which will help the
company grow as a community and as a name in the industry. With the more formal approaches
to showing recognition, there are usually end of the year events for a company to celebrate
another year of success and it is very easy to hold even a small ceremony to show appreciation to
staff who did an exceptional job; however, it is important to recognize everyone in general as
well to make sure no one feels as if they are not appreciated (Weinger,2023). There are more
