In the novel, we can see a big difference between the powers of black and white people. The white people in the novel have the power of money, status, control, and influence. They also manipulate justice for their own advantage. For example, the mayor turns out to be apart from a pedophile, corrupt. Another example is how Carter is protected by the captain and due to his position on the police he is able to cover up Todd's crimes. Albright, who hires Easy to find Daphne, has the power of money and status that makes Easy do the dirty work for him in exchange for money. On the other hand, the black people in the novel have a totally different type of power. They have the power of violence, where we can see that most of them (black characters) know how to defend themselves and also have some perks, for example, Easy can go to bars and clubs that white people can't. Easy, as a black man has the ability to gather information for Mr. Albright in places he wouldn't be able to if he tried on his own.
