The situation got too much worsen within a week, and the government could not handle the situation properly, hence, the only solution was a lockdown, it somehow controls the flow of disease, but it was already late. A lot of people were already in a contact with the virus and become ill, among those people infected some needed hospital treatment. The spread was too much broad and the number of ill people is high, because of poor preparedness and lack of infrastructure, hospitals and especially nurses experienced extreme pressure. Fear and anxiety roll around them in those uncertain and unfavourable conditions. Some of the major problems they faced were; mismanagement in controlling the situation, because of a lack of awareness and a lack of preventive measures taken. Another one is misinformation and lack of information-related data, which make the case even worse. Injustice and discrimination are other issues faced by nurses even after their hard work and life-threatening position. Lack of supervision by management because of the extreme flow of patients. Isolation measures are not taken care and lack of financial and emotional support toward nurses even in tough working conditions. Physical and mental stress in work as well as overtime issues because of shortage of workers. Many other issues were faced by nurses in this pandemic which not only teach us about dealing with these kinds of favourable conditions but also show the need for ethical and sustainable leadership in such kind of organizations.
In these kinds of uncertain times especially in the health sector or service sector managers and authorities need to play a vital role to sustain smoothly even in times of change. The main job of the leader is to meet the financial needs and requirements of the employee, incentives programs to facilitate and encourage nurses, support them mentally, regular engagement and supervision, etc. In this critical condition, ethics play a very important role because it is directly related to one's life and a leader must know that. According to Ciulla (1998), ethics and integrity is at the heart of leadership and should be taken seriously for the success of the business and the long-term survival of the organization. In the above conditions leader having some ethics and integrity toward work can only do better. A lot of decisions in the health sector need critical analysis and smart decision-making standing on moral ground, in an immediate matter such as covid-19 crisis. The moral person facet of ethical leadership discusses the traits and/or character of the leader. Ethical leaders personify certain traits such as honesty, integrity, truthfulness, openness to input, respect and principled n decision-making, and concern for others (Trevino et al., 2000). In unfavourable conditions which arise unpredictably, the leader needs to know about the nature of their follower, how to act with them, and bend them to the need of the organization. Those ethical leadership traits are essential for the leader in the COVID-19 crisis and having that kind of leader in the organization has done better. In immediate times nurses need better infrastructure, management of resources, financial betterment, and safety measures, only those managers who have positive attitudes and characteristics can understand those issues and address them accordingly. De Hoogh and Den Hartog (2009) defined ethical leadership as the process in which a leader influences group activities to the attainment of organizational goals in a socially responsible way. In the health sector, at times of emergencies, a lot of pressure arises because of the nature of organizations, there needs to be a leader who is not only smart in decision making but those decisions need to be taken in a socially acceptable way. These are some ethical and moral considerations which are needed to be taken by leaders immediately, but organizations run even after that, now the question is how they survive after a change. The answer is sustainable leadership, which is always linked to the sustainable development of organizations. The immediate impact of COVID-19 is related to the mental and physical well-being of nurses in the health sector in the time of crisis, but the long-term impacts are related to the economic situation of employees and the organization's status after the change. To survive they need a sustainable model guided by sustainable leaders. Sustainable leadership is the product of the integration of sustainable development and leadership, which is a kind of leadership and management behaviour that aims to meet the needs of stakeholders and develop the core business of the enterprise, to create long-term value for all stakeholders. (Avery and Bergsteiner, 2011a, b). Sustainable leaders can turn themselves into better leader who has a positive impact on the employee and can increase employee job satisfaction. It is not only goal-based leadership but sustainable leadership activity which is attached to every aspect of the organization making an auto-regenerating system applying various practices so the organization can maintain economic, social, and surroundings balance every time even in the time of crisis. Sustainable leadership is the promoter of organizational culture that always focus on creativity and innovation. A sustainable leader knows what is next, and is always ready for plan b. Focusing on the long term, "doing the right thing", promoting sustainable shared value creation, and innovating sustainable business models are all basic skills and practices of sustainable leadership, which are conducive to improving organizational culture (Tideman et al., 2013). In the health sector, an important essence of always doing the right thing kind of environment is presented. With the skills and practices done by sustainable leadership organizations such as the health sector can easily overcome the long-term impacts of the Covid-19 situation.
In the conclusive lines, ethics play an important role in the critical organization such as hospitals, hence ethical leadership style is best suited there, in the immediate impact of the Corona crisis nurses face many problems if handled with an ethical measurement taken by a leader standing on moral ground, then it could have been better. And dealing with long-term impacts in this kind of uncertain situation leaders having ethical and sustainable leadership qualities are better, they can also easily relate with other leadership styles, such as Transformational style, Spiritual style, Servant style, etc. because they share some common attributes of morality and integrity.
