In the production of sunflower oil, the seeds contain $12\%$ by weight of oil and the rest in solid, the seeds are ground and fed to an extractor tank along with a recirculation stream of liquid hexane. The effluent from the extractor passes to a filter. The Filter cake contains $77\%$ by weight of sunflower solids and the rest of seed oil and hexane, the latter two in the same proportion at which they emerge from the extractor. The cake of filtrate is discarded, and the liquid filtrate is fed to a heated evaporator, in which the hexane is vaporized and $100\%$ liquid oil comes out.
