1. Diversity challenges (Connect, Perform) The number of foreign-born workers is increasing with Hispanic employees projected to grow the most. Despite commitment made in 2014 to increase the number of tenure-track, minority professors to 25 percent by 2020, Dartmouth College came under fire in May 2016 for denying tenure to popular, Asian-American professor Aimee Bahng. Although tenure denials are not uncommon, Aimee Bahng's denial is surprising as her tenure was unanimously approved by the departmental tenure committee, but denied by the Committee Advisory to the President. By all accounts, Bahng has an impressive list of accomplishments including degrees from prestigious institutions, published writings, two forthcoming books, and presentations at conferences. Noted as an innovative instructor, Bahng helped create a Black Lives Matter course at Dartmouth and mentors students of color. Dartmouth students and professors attended a town hall meeting criticizing the decision and took to Twitter with hashtags * fight4facultyofcolor and #dontdoDartmouth. In addition, more than 3000 people have signed a petition to overturn the decision. Dartmouth's Diversity and Inclusivity goals include: "Hiring, retaining, and promoting employees and student workers who demonstrate commitment to diversity as a core value and who can articulate whey this value is important."
