In this assignment you will adopt a federal agency. The purpose of this assignment is for you to explore the powers of a federal agency that you will most likely interact with in your future career.

Think about your future career goals. Which of the administrative agencies would you or your industry most likely interact with? Make a list of these agencies. For instance, some common agencies that most businesses interact with include the Department of Labor, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and everyone's favorite, the Internal Revenue Service. At the same time, some agencies pertain only to specific industries. For instance, Kean University interacts with the federal Department of Education.

From your list, select the administrative agency that most interests you to conduct further research. This is the federal agency you will "adopt." Using the administrative agency's website, and any other research you'd like to complete, answer the following questions:

1. What is the purpose of the administrative agency that you've decided to adopt?

2. How was that agency created? What is its structure? What must a business do in order to comply with the basic requirements of the agency?

3. How does the agency approach its rule-making function? Give an example of a recent rule promulgated by the agency? Summarize the rule and share how it changed how businesses must comply with the agency's rules.

4. Does the agency have an investigatory function? How does the agency approach this function?

5. How does the agency carry out its adjudicatory function? Give an example of a recent case that was decided by the agency. Summarize the case and share whether it changes how businesses conduct themselves.

6. Given your exploration of the agency, what do you think about the regulatory function that the agency provides? Does the agency have too much power, in your view? Should the agency have more power? Explain your position, giving examples.
