In this hypothetical, assume the following:

Louisiana is similar to much of the nation, with only about 20% of children with a mental health disorder receiving care from a mental health provider. Some of the barriers to care include difficulties accessing care and the high cost of care. Approximately 4,000 of the more than 100,000 clinical psychologists in the U.S. are child and adolescent providers.

You are part of an urban children's hospital work group exploring potential policy options to improve children's access to mental health care services. Your work group has identified two possible alternatives to the status quo:

1) Increase telehealth services

2) Expand mental health resources in schools.

Using the information above, plus additional research that you do, complete the following:

  • 1) For each alternative state your projected policy outcome (20 points)
  • 2) Choose two evaluation criteria from those listed in our reading this week from Bardach (20 points)
  • 3) Explain why these two criteria are good choices for your analysis. In other words, why are these evaluation criteria relevant to this specific policy issue? (10 points)
  • 4) Make a table that evaluates your alternative outcomes and the status quo based on your selected evaluation criteria- include a visual probability description and a written explanation (100 points)
