In this task, write a one-hour lesson plan which improves students skills in one of the following areas: reading or listening. The reading or listening text you use must be authentic material you have found yourself - not written yourself. See Unit 10: Authentic Material for ideas on what to include. Authentic material: this refers to texts and audios that aren\'t written for or already adapted for English language learners. See examples below ? ? BBC: Being Kind can be Good for Your Health: This is considered authentic material, because it is an original article; in other words, it has not been written for or adapted for English language learners. X British Council: World Kindness Day: This would not be acceptable for this assignment because it has been taken from an English language learning site; therefore, it has been written for or adapted for English language learners. Once youve chosen your text or audio, ensure you include the link (URL). Note: we will not accept assignments where the teacher reads text out loud. Important information:
  1. Base your lesson on one text or audio.
  2. Ensure your reading text is between 350-750 words. For listening, find an audio that is between 3-4 minutes.
Note: When selecting an appropriate number of words for your text, you are able to select a certain block of consecutive writing (e.g. you simply choose the first 3 paragraphs of an article and leave out the rest to keep in the word count). However, you are unable to cut & paste and choose which sentences and paragraphs you wish to include, as this becomes editing and will render your text inauthentic.
  1. Examples of reading texts you could use are: newspaper articles, recipes or advertising leaflets for a reading lesson. For listening, examples are weather reports, train station announcements, podcasts or interviews.
  2. Follow the suggested reading/listening structures set out in unit 9. This won\'t be the same structure (e.g. PPP or TTT) as in a vocabulary or grammar lesson.
  3. If the text/audio you use is not authentic (e.g. if it is from an inauthentic site such as eslbase.com), your assignment won\'t be marked and you will be asked to resubmit with authentic material.
  4. Ensure your text/audio is suitable for your learners and avoid sensitive topics. If your tutor considers your choice of topic to be unsuitable, you will be asked to resubmit; therefore, think carefully about what to include.
The students The students are a group of 10 adults, and they are aged between 18 and 25. The students are all Italian, so the class is monolingual. Their level of English is upper-intermediate.

  1. Materials must be visible so your tutor can see them, i.e., do not embed files into your assignment, as your tutor may not be able to open them.
  2. You must include all the materials you use in the lesson, including flashcards, worksheets, roleplay cards, etc. If you say in the lesson plan that your students will use materials, but you do not include them, your assignment may be returned to you.
  3. All materials should go in the materials section of the assignment template.
  4. As a rule, limit external materials to one activity or worksheet per lesson plan.
