East finished in EXACTLY the same order [Yankees; Red Sox; Blue Jays; Orioles; Rays]. The Yankees won each year (not a shock, I suppose...they went to the World Series in FIVE of those six years, winning in 1998, 1999, and 2000, and losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001 and then to the Florida (now Miami) Marlins in 2003....still, an impressive run!!)

If we calculate the HHI (both actual and ideal) for AL East Championships during that period, the actual HHI is quite straightforward; the same team won each year. ....thus, the HHI would be:
