've worked in many different fields over the years, but one thing that has always remained in common is that you will experience and be exposed to multiple languages, if not daily, but frequently. Being able to communicate not only your coworkers but your customers/patiences is critical in making sure your job is completed efficiently and that the people you are working with/for are taken care of properly. With this week's readings, not only is being able to understand each other and different languages critical, but being able to use the skills those who are bilingual provide to the team is also critical. According to Marian & Shook (2012) 66% of children of the world are being raised bilingual, this means that over half the population of the world is able to speak more than one language. Being bilingual allows for cognitive development in ways such as increased non-verbal conflict management ( Marian & SHook, 2012) and cognitive development in symbol manipulation and reorganization (Bialystok et al 2012). These benefits help a person in their daily life but also present them as an asset to the team when it comes to a professional setting.
