Incentives are the rewards that influence our choices in everyday life.As an example, we are naturally inclined to accept a job that has the best incentives fromour personal perspective. These incentives can run the gamut from commission base pay to straight salary. the ability to work from home,401(k) matching to free dental.Incentives have become reflective of a new work force. Perks can include bringing your dog to work, healthy meals, fitness memberships, yoga and time off.Not everyone is looking for the same incentives within their jobs.

A suboptimal outcome could be choosing the first most readily available job versus waiting for a larger, more lucrative match. This can have a negative effect based on the opportunity cost of taking the first job. I worked for a general contractor who would take any job. He would make the most out of working at a house byfixing whatever issue he was hired for to also look for any other issues within the house. His thought process was that a client was more likely to accept doing another project at the house since the workers and equipment were already there. The new project would just add on another week or two to the construction. The issue was as we kept adding on projects to do within the house, the profit would diminish as the projects tended to be smaller and smaller. We would endup spending so much time doing small projects that we would lose the opportunity to do bigger projects at different houses. There were fewer clients on top of less profit at the end of the day.
