The broad definition ofchildren with special health needsincludes children with medical, developmental, and learning delays, as well as those with disabilities. The inclusion of children with special needs enriches the program for everyone involved. Public and private organizations provide funds for some of the services as mandated by federal and state laws, and teachers have a special duty to ensure children with special needs receive and benefit from the services and resources available to them. Typically, caring for children with special needs requires a closer connection to their health care providers, family members, and all of the staff that works with the child.
Regardless of what type of program you work in, from time to time, you'll work with children that have special needs. The contents of this assignment will allow you to take steps toward inclusion.
