Individual Final Project

These are the technical requirements for the final Web site project you will design and build. When starting to plan your project it is very useful to know what the requirements are for the finished product so you are able to see these requirements early in the semester. As you progress through the semester, more and more of these elements will become familiar to you. Be sure to read over these requirements early on in the semester, and then again as you eventually start to build your web site project.

If you are looking for ideas for your site, considering developing a personal or professionally focused web site about yourself--this way you can design something that can be used outside of the course. Your final project may be on any topic you like, as long as you abide by PSU policy outlined here http://kb.its.psu.edu/taxonomy/term/175 (Links to an external site.). You may continue the work you did in L09: Transferring Files to Your Web Space or submit something entirely different.

For the project guidelines, consult the rubric on how you will be graded. The following will also give you project stipulations:

(10 pts.) You must hand code (that means type) the vast majority of your code. This is an important part of the learning process in this class. In other words

Yes, you can do this: It is permissible to utilize some style techniques from other web sites, but I suggest steering away from complex Javascript that is difficult to adopt for your use. I strongly suggest downloading and using a simple HTML/CSS editor like Notepad++ or EditPlus to create all of your web pages and style sheet for this project

No, you cant do this: Copy-and-paste from other projects that you didn't build. No, you can't use software that will generate HTML/CSS code for you (like Adobe Dreamweaver or Microsoft Expression).

(10 pts.) Ballpark of 5 - 10 html files as far as how big the site should be. Other than this guide, the size of the site is up to you. You earn 1 point for every working (error-free) web page; up to 10 points. (10 pts.) Minimum: 5 images (internally sourced) throughout the site (any type) with ALT and TITLE tags. (10 pts.) Minimum: Working navigation to all of your web pages and 5 external hyperlinks throughout the site. (10 pts.) Minimum: 1 CSS file that "styles" every page. (10 pts.) Minimum: 1 Web form (what it collects and does is up to you). (10 pts.) Minimum: 1 table to display "tabular" data. The data can be anything. Don't use tables for page layout at all. (10 pts.) Commenting written by you for main parts of the site. That is, you certainly don't have to comment every tag, but comment main parts of the site, explain why you used certain tags, any trouble shooting you had to do, etc. (10 pts.) Proper Web file management in place. (10 pts.) The site must be hosted with your PSU Personal web space. I must be able to click the link you submit at the end of the semester and see your entire site in a Web browser. (Although your score will be significantly reduced, if you are unable for any reason to host the site, please still turn in a zip file of the entire site to show your work.)
