informative speech

Guidelines for the speech itself:

This speech will be an informative speech (3 minutes) in which you will give general information on a topic. In preparation for writing the speech, write a specific purpose statement and a thesis statement. The purpose statement should clearly identify your topic. The thesis statement should make an interesting claim about the topic. You do not need to turn the actual speech in but this is needed for your own purposes.

Before you can formulate an effective thesis, you will need to do some research on your topic. As you are thinking of the thesis, keep your audience (classmates) in mind as well. What you say and how you say it will depend on your audience.

For organizational purposes, have a formal outline for your informative speech.

Be sure to have an introduction and conclusion for your speech. Create an engaging introduction that will grab your audience's attention. Use the technique most appropriate for your topic and purpose. Also, create an effective conclusion that wraps up the speech and reminds your audience of the most important points.
