Instructions: Answer each question completely using the tools and concepts learned in the course. Your answers should demonstrate analytical rigor and should be clear and succinct (an exceptional answer may use significantly less than the stated maximum number of words).

1. Conduct an industry analysis for an industry that you work in or closely with. You may also conduct an industry analysis for an industry that you are thinking of entering. Your answer should contain the following parts.

  • Your first sentence or two should describe the industry and your relationship with the industry you are analyzing.
  • Organize your answer so that each force receives its own bullet point. For each force, describe each force, make clear its strength, and explain. A strong force is one that decreases a firm's profit.
  • At the end of your answer provide a summary of your industry analysis by explaining whether the industry is attractive for a new firm entering the market.

2. Conduct an internal analysis for a firm or organization in the industry that you conducted the industry analysis for in Question (1). This could be a firm or organization that you work for or closely with. This could also be for a firm or organization that you are thinking of starting.

  • Your first sentence or two should describe the firm or organization and your relationship with it.
  • Next make clear whether the organization has or will have a sustainable competitive advantage.
  • Explain your internal analysis of competitive advantage. Make sure you apply and reference the framework and concepts learned in the course.
