There have been several influential court cases and legislative acts that shaped the field of special education. In order to fully realize how said cases and acts have affected the field of special education, we must be familiar with the history and development of these laws. Each student will be assigned one influential case or act to be explored. You will present a summary overview of the case in the form of a PowerPoint and present this to the class. You will also write a one to one-and-a-half-page reflection on why you think the case was important in education and particularly for students with exceptionalities.

Presentation This week, each teacher candidate will create a brief 3-minute presentation of their case and the impact that this case had on the field of special education. This presentation should just present factual information regarding the case.

The topics is: Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA reauthorized)

• Your presentation should:
  • Provide a summary of the case.
  • Describe the circumstances that led up to the case/act.
  • Specify who were the plaintiffs (the party who initiates the lawsuit) and who were the defendants. Or, for legislative acts, who initialized the legislation.
  • Describe the court's ruling in the case or how the legislation was passed.
