Your final culminating assessment consists of creating a personal leadership portfolio. Your portfolio will include examples of how you have developed leadership and management skills and experiences throughout your life as well as your personal development. Professional sites like LinkedIn provide many examples of real Leadership Portfolios. Feel free to do your own search to get an idea of how individuals express their leadership journey. Purpose of a Leadership Portfolio The purpose of a leadership portfolio is for you to showcase your accomplishments, personal and professional development, skills and experiences. You can use your portfolio in a number of situations: to apply for post-secondary education, pursue a job prospect or promotion, or attain a volunteer position. A leadership portfolio is a constant showcase of your reflection and it evolves over time as your experiences evolve - similar to a resum but not only focusing on job and education. Format You will decide the format of your portfolio. Keep in mind that it should be visually appealing as it may be used in the future for an upcoming job interview! Some ideas on how to assemble the portfolio include the following, but you are not limited to these ideas: Google/Blog site LinkedIn profile Slide presentation Infographic Components of Your Leadership Portfolio Personal Leadership Philosophy: A statement (one clear statement) and explanation (one to two paragraphs) of your personal leadership philosophy. Leadership Quote: A quote about leadership that resonates with you (with full reference to the source) and explain why you chose it. Personal Leadership Intent Statement and SWOT Analysis: You will create a personal leadership intent statement. This is a clear leadership objective (goal) that you have (this can be formal or informal), and complete a SWOT analysis on yourself in relation to your objective. You should have six points for each SWOT category, and mention each of the core concepts from the course at least once (personality, motivation, communication, leading, organizing, planning, and controlling). Management Skills Using the four functions of management (leading, organizing, planning, controlling), identify how you have developed managerial skills over the course of your life so far. Provide examples from your participation in school, work or volunteering. Your examples do not need to be examples of formal management roles, but think about the skills that you have used in various ways that connect to the four functions of management. Identify two examples for each category of the management functions and explain how it connects to the course concepts. Make sure that your answers reflect course concepts from each unit (personality, motivation, communication, leading, organizing, planning, and controlling). Use the proper terminology when discussing the course concepts. Presentation and Communication Theme: A clearly developed theme that is linked to the leadership style and that is present throughout your portfolio. Cover page: A creative cover page with your personal information that captures both your theme and who you are as a leader (photo of you, name of the course, thematic information, and so on). Presentation: The portfolio can be constructed using several different formats (refer to instructions provided above). |
