Internship The demand for experienced employees has made internships a fact of life for many college students. The experience gained during an internship is so valuable in gaining regular employment that some recent graduates will take an unpaid internship to gain entry to a good company. At some companies, the competition for internships is as intense as for a full-time job. Internships provide an opportunity for students to try out an industry or job before committing to full-time employment. Employers benefit by seeing a possible future employee in a real-world job setting, not just on a resume and interview. The value of internships to the student raises the question of whether and how much an intern should be paid. Employers may feel that the experience and opportunities for full-time jobs they provide are valuable enough that they do not need to provide pay, too. Students, on the other hand, are working and providing value to the company while gaining experience, so they often feel they deserve to be paid. Laws governing when an internship can be unpaid or must be paid can be vague. What do you think are some other benefits to interns and employers? Would you consider taking an unpaid internship? what value would you expect to receive in return for your work? Do you think employers always have an obligation to pay interns, or are there benefits that outweigh payment? In your first post, thoroughly answer the 3 questions in a paragraph form. In your second post, make a meaningful, thoughtful reply to another student. Replies such as "I agree", "I see your point", "I never thought of that", etc. do not add to the conversation and will not count as a reply post. Your initial response is due on Thursday by 11:59 pm and your reply post is due by Sunday at 11:59 pm
