Interviewing for Your Profession - The purpose of this assignment is to assist you in learning more about the types of professionals who are actually out there practicing psychology. This assignment requires you to interview two professionals who are currently practicing in the field of psychology or a related field. You may choose three different psychology professionals (such as a social worker, clinical psychologist, and mental health counselor) or if you are especially interested in a given field you may concentrate your interviews accordingly (for instance, interview three social workers). The interviews should be held in person and allow enough time for you to obtain the depth of information necessary for this assignment. We ask that at least one of the professionals you interview not be from your placement site. Examples of interview questions are:

How did you become interested in your field of psychology? Why? What is the philosophy and mission of your particular field of psychology? What do you know now that you are out in the field that you didn't know when you were in school preparing for the profession? Where did you go to school? Did you like it? Would you recommend it? Do you like what you do? What is the upside? Downside? How did you end up where you are today?

You will then write a 4-6-page type written paper that will provide: A thorough summary of your informational interviews describing the types of professionals you interviewed, the settings in which they work and other relevant personal and professional information regarding their chosen field of work. Keep in mind; we should be able to obtain a good sense of what it is like to be a school psychologist, counselor, social worker, or other human service worker by reading your paper.
