Introduction: Have you ever experienced stress, anxiety, or depression? Or maybe you have experienced one or more at the same time? There are many things that can cause either stress, anxiety, or depression and these three things can affect your overall mental health. Some people have been put on medication to treat one or all three of them. Everyone has different ways of dealing or handling their mental health. Some people all it takes it being put on medication to help them others might need to have physical activity to help such as working out or strength training. Others might use other self-care tactics to help them. Sometimes it takes people a while to find out what works best for them, and everyone is different. The question is the effects of working out or strength training in relation to your mental health? Methods: I conducted a survey asking questions about what level people on are with their anxiety, stress, and depression on a scale on 0- 100 with 100 being the highest and the 0 being the lowest. There were questions about how they feel when they are working out/ strength training while they are working out/ strength training and after they are done. There also expressed how much sleep they get and where their anxiety, stress, and or depression stem from. They were also asked how many times they go to the gym and when was the times that they like to go. There was a question where they can explain their self- image and their overall quality of life. I also interviewed two different individuals one that was in a relationship and one that is in a relationship now. I took the answers and compiled them together. Results: After reading all the results it shows that 25% workout or strength train 1-2 days and 5-6. 37.5% of the participants said that they workout or strength train 3-4 days a week and 12.5% said that did not at all. The participants had a complied score of 75 that they liked to be in the gym at night and only 25 said they go when they have time. The two interviews said that they liked to workout or strength train at night. The mean of the physical health of the participants was 66.13 and the minimum was 17 and the maximum was 91. The overall mental health for the participants was a mean of 66.13 which was the same as their physical health. Although the mean was the same for physical and mental health, mental health was a minimum of 20 and the maximum was 89. When they were asked how much sleep that they get per night 5-6 hour, 6-7 hours, and 7-8 hours was 25%. Less than 5 hours and more than 8 hours was 12.5%. Some of the participants 37.5% said that they might having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep and 37.5% said they do not have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. The last 25% said that they do have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. All the participants were in agreeance that working out or strength training had a positive impact on their lives. As the graph below shows. The 50% of the participants said that they experience a moderate stress, anxiety, or depression. With the two individuals that was interview one said now that he has come out of a long-term relationship that the stress and anxiety is very little to none. With the survey 28.5% said that their stress, anxiety, and depression the primary source is relationships and 35.71% said that it was work related and financial situations. The mean of stress for the participants was 68, anxiety was 52 and depression was 30.83. when asked how they feel before the workout or strength training, they feel, tired bloated, reluctant, ran down, stiff, stressed, and just blah. Some of the ways that the participants feel after they have completed their workout or strength training was energized, focused, relief, calm, tired, a sense of achievement. The two people that were interviewed both had the same response to how they feel after a workout or strength training is that they feel that they are more likely to aroused. Discussion: The effect of working out or strength training in relation to someone's mental health has shown through the data and interviews that when the participants said they engage in physical activity that it did increase their body image some said that it did not increase their body image. When the interviewees were interviewed, they said the working out and or strength training did improve their body image or self-image and that increased their overall health along with their sexual health. One interviewee said that. "When they are done with their workout or strength training, they are more aroused and with them being more aroused than they are more likely to engage in sexual intercourse which they feel increases their quality of life." The other interviewee when asked if they thought that the strength training and working out improved their self-image and if their self-imaged was increased did that effect their sexual life? The interviewee said. "I do not have a sexual life right now as I am just coming out of a long-term relationship, but I think that it would if I was in a relationship." In an article Is strength training as effective as aerobic training for depression in older adults the study showed that with the strength training and or aerobics are having such an impact on older adults with depression as much as older adults that are taking antidepressants ( Moraes, Silveriam, Oliveria) In another article with children and adolescents with disabilities and how resistance training is having a positive effect on children's health. In the study most parents are resistant to the concept of childen and using resistant training even though it shows that it can help children as much as it does adolescents (Legerlotz 2020). Conclusion: With the survey and the interviews, I feel that if a person engages in some kind of physical activity such as working out or strength training then it does help them with their mental health and their physical health. When their mental health overall is good then it does increase the quality of their self-image and if their self-image is good then their sexual experiences increase therefore their overall quality of life increases.
