Introduction
The SAP system is an enterprise resource planning system that aids in the execution of key business functions within an organisation. The SAP system is compromised with many different modules that helps business activity. For the purpose of the game that has been conducted only the SCM73 and ER2 modules will be regulated. The ER2 module is the database that holds the details of finished goods, semi-finished goods, raw materials and work centers. The SCM73 module is the tool used for planning which allows for communication between both ER2 and SCM73 modules. Through the combination of products, facilities, vehicles and routes and the comparison between the supply plan and demand plan; it allows for a much better understanding of the supply chain for all parties. The aim of this game is to demonstrate the movement of products between the supply chain with the SAP system showing processes, procedures and problems and giving the user the ultimate final decision based on the resources provided by SAP.
DC Planning
The planning cycle occurs between the DC planner and plant 1 and/or 2 onwards. As seen in appendix 9 it displays the movement of product from the plant to the DC planner which is then moved forward to the customer. Having a look at appendix 10, it is seen that there is an order given for an initial demand of 300 bikes to be delivered to the customer’s confirmed location however, there isn’t any products available in the warehouse as it shows there is a supply shortage of 300 bikes. This was conducted through the “planning table” in the SCM73 system. Generally 100 bikes are kept in the warehouse as a means of safety stock in case there may have been a problem that may have occurred in the warehouse such as the damage of a bike; where then the order may still be fulfilled by taking from the safety stock.
In appendix11, on week 40 there is then another 140 orders that have been placed for the delivery of bikes which then brings that total order that needs to be delivered to 410 bikes to the customer. In appendix 12, the DC planner planned to dispatch 510 bikes to the customer which would take approximately 322 days to supply. When attempting to confirm this order there has been an error that has occurred whereby as seen in appendix 13 there wasn’t sufficient stock to fulfil the order and more stock will need to be received from the plant in order for the production to be confirmed.
Finished Good Production Planner
In the simulation game, finished product planner is responsible to manage and control commercial inventory on product or location level. The appendix 1 and 2 mainly introduce the contents of planner finisher prod plant and capacity levelling finish prod in SAP system from the first week to the 44th week respectively. SNP PLAN(SP) includes customer quantity demanded, how many are receipted, and how much stock do you have every day. CAPACITY CHECK to check the percentage of resource capacity level, if capacity consumption and available capacity are more similar, the percentage of resource capacity level will be closer to 100.Appendix 3 states that the planned finished good in the plant with heuristic location will create the demand in the distribution demand planned and the production plan automatically.
The finished goods planner must examine the capabilities of the resources used to produce the finished product. The given picture in appendix 4 shows that the resource capacity level in percentage was over 100% which means that the resource is overloaded, however, in order to ensure that the executor\'s ability is within the range of execution, we can change the system by selecting forward scheduling from the scheduling direction. In this way, the resource ability level can be maximized, just like appendix 5.The appendix 6 to 8 are about how to obtain the final product confirmation quantity. In the highlighted areas, we can clearly observe the differences between them. The product confirmation quantity can be obtained by the first two SNP PL-orders in the convert order in the system.
Semi-Finished Good Production Planner
As a part of the supply chain, a semi-finished goods production planner is responsible for overseeing a partially completed/assembled good exported from its country of origin to the destination, the product is intended to be sold. Appendix 14 demonstrates the components to be transported to manufacture a bike. As illustrated in appendix 15, during the Supply Network Planning (SNP) process stock transfers can be generated and updated throughout the planning phase. The distribution receipt manifests a view of these stock transfers at the receiving location.
Throughout the capacity levelling phase validated by appendix 16, forward scheduling was necessary to allow order quantities to be moved from the available date to the future to enable levelling of bottleneck resources. Multiple dates experienced overload above 100% which is caused by SNP heuristic run which is a form of planning that doesn’t allow for accountability of wider principles and resulting in an overload of resources (demonstrated in appendix 17).
Discussion
SAP SCM is a member of SAP Business suite. The suite is modular software that can be used in conjunction with other SAP and non-sap software, enabling organizations to perform basic business tasks in an independent manner. SAP can provide comprehensive information management functions to facilitate enterprise data integration and manipulation. Having a look at appendix 4, there is an error because the resource capacity over 100%. In this case, if the capacity consumption over 27, it will cause an error, and the solution is through forward scheduling to adjust and maintain within the normal range.
Conclusion
In summary, the group had to terminate the simulation game due to error in forecasting exceeding total demand. Therefore the objective to minimize inventory was not achieved and is unresolved. Quantities ordered failed to be process therefore stock was unable to be transferred to Kanas City.
