Midterm Study Guide Question:

Your objective for this scenario is take on the role of as one of the responding officers. List, in sequence and detail, the steps you will take to preserve the crime scene and begin collecting evidence. Please note, there are officers attending to the victim. Your objective is to properly secure the crime scene (step by step) and collect evidence from the scene (step by step). Note: this is a practical exercise to help you understand the complexity of both objectives (preservation and collection)

Scenario

Jenna Doe is a 36 year old transgender female who goes out to a local bar with some friends one night. At the bar, they end up running into another group of people who know one of her friends, so Jenna spends some time talking with a few of them, including a cisgender male, Paul. Jenna only has one drink throughout the entire evening, because she has to leave earlier than her friends and wants to make sure she can drive herself home. When Jenna goes to leave, Paul offers to walk her to her car to make sure that she makes it safely, and Jenna accepts the offer.

When they arrive at Jenna's car, Paul kisses her. Jenna stops him, and explains to him that she isn't interested. Paul gets upset, pins her up against her car, gropes her, and starts yelling at her and calls her a freak. Paul gets angrier and angrier, and despite Jenna's request for him to stop, he continues to assault her, eventually forcing her to perform oral sex on him. Paul leaves, and Jenna gets into her car, unsure of what to do. She is afraid of what law enforcement might say if she tries to report, and feels uncomfortable going for medical treatment.
