Introduction to Database Project Report Format Guidelines The project report should be prepared in accordance with the following instructions: The report must be written in English and should not exceed 20 pages in total including Appendices. Good quality plain white paper of A4 size should be used for all copies of the report. Use Times New Roman font, font size 12, text font color black. Use double spacing. Pages should be printed in one side only. Margins should be left justified and 1 inch on top, bottom and right, 1.5 on left. Figures are to fit on the A4 size paper. They may be in landscape orientation and you may use a smaller font (no smaller then 8 point). Project reports should have the following sections: 1. Preliminary Pages. 2. Body of Report. 3. Bibliography/ References. 4. Appendices (if any). 1. Preliminary Pages. Each part below should on a separate page(s). Page title The title page must be in the accepted standardized form. Table of contents Font size 14. List/s of tables and figures All your tables and figures must be included in these lists. List/s are not numbered. 2. Body of Report All reports contain at least the following (or equivalent) sections: Introduction. Data requirements. For example, part of the data requirements for a video store application might be as follows: Each branch has staff, which includes a manager. The details held on manager are his/ her name, position and salary. Each member of the staff is given a staff number, which is unique through out the company. Each branch is allocated a stock of videos, the details on videos are catalog number.. User transactions Example user transactions: 1. Enter/ update/ delete the details of a given branch. 2. List the details of branches in a given city. 3. Conceptual model: complete Entity Relationship (ER) diagram including specification of relationship cardinality and multiplicity and participation constraints. Mapping the ER diagram to the relational database schema. Database tables: create table structures based on the relational schema. Normalization: All the tables should be in the BCNF normal form. SQL DDL statements: for creating tables with the above mentioned specifications and integrity constraints. Conclusion. 3. Bibliography/ Reference.
