Inventory accounting question.

How would a manufacturer$/$merchadiser account for the transportation of its inventory $($assuming the inventory items are already made$)$ to its own warehouses? I am thinking operating expenses, but could these costs be capatalized to the inventory account $($capitalized$)?$ I do not recall this being the way to record these expenses $($taught in university$)$
