It can be challenging to assess the performance of a computer as there are a wide variety of performance improvement techniques. We need to be able to define what performance is before we can determine if one computer or program has better performance than another. Out text references both throughput (bandwidth) and response time (execution time) as the two measures of performance. Compare and contrast the two types of performance measures and explain how they can be used to measure program and computer performance.
